What this site is

Every number a service member gets paid, on one site, from the source tables

MilitaryCalc is a set of calculators for U.S. military pay and benefits. Each one answers a question that otherwise means digging through a PDF from DFAS, DTMO or the VA and reading the right row by hand. Type a ZIP code and a paygrade and the answer is on the screen, with the history behind it and the rule that produced it. There is no sign-up, no lead form and no quote request. The site is supported by clearly marked affiliate links and may show ads; the calculators are free to use either way.

The 2026 tables are live. Basic pay rose 3.8% on January 1. BAS is $477 a month for enlisted members and $328 for officers. Across the 299 housing areas with published rates, an E-5 with dependents draws anywhere from $1,185 in ANNISTON/FORT MCCLELLAN, AL to $5,127 in SAN FRANCISCO, CA, with a median of $2,118. VA disability compensation runs from $180 at 10% to $3,939 at 100% for a veteran with no dependents, before dependent add-ons. The TSP elective deferral limit is $24,500.

The site is built for people with orders in hand: a PCS to a new duty station, a re-enlistment decision, a first look at what retirement pays, a VA claim that just came back with a rating. Spouses, recruiters, financial counselors and reporters use the same pages, and every result has a permanent URL so it can be sent to someone else exactly as calculated.

How the numbers are kept right

Source files in, no hand-typed rates

Every rate on this site is parsed from a government file: the DTMO BAH ASCII releases for each year, the DFAS basic pay and BAS tables, the VA compensation rate pages, and the TSP and IRS contribution limits. The raw files are kept in the repository and the calculators import the parsed data, so a figure cannot be edited in one place and forgotten in another. When a new year publishes, the new file replaces the old one and every page updates together.

The parsed BAH data is also published as an open dataset (JSON and CSV, public domain) so anyone can check a number against the same file we read. If you find a rate that does not match your LES or the official table, use the contact page; corrections ship the same day and the change is noted on the affected page.

What the calculators do not do: they are not connected to DFAS or the VA, they do not know your special pays, allotments or tax withholding, and they are not a substitute for your unit pay office or a VA-accredited representative. Treat every figure as an estimate to confirm, not a statement of entitlement. Read the about page for the full method and the guides for the rules behind each allowance.
