• Calculator inputs (ZIP, paygrade, etc.): Processed in your browser. Nothing is sent to our server unless you submit a form.
• Email subscriptions: If you subscribe to rate-change alerts, we store your email address and optional ZIP code in our own self-hosted email system.
• Analytics: We use privacy-respecting analytics (Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymization, and optionally Microsoft Clarity for usage understanding). These are analytics tools, not advertising trackers: we use them only to understand which calculators are used and where pages break, never to build advertising profiles or retarget you. Google Signals (cross-device advertising features in GA4) is turned off. No cross-site tracking.
• Server logs: Standard web server logs (IP, user agent, timestamps) retained 30 days for security and abuse prevention.

• Social Security number, DOD ID, branch of service, deployment status, or any other personally-identifying military data.
• Bank, financial, or credit information.
• Location data beyond what you type into the calculator (and that stays in your browser).

• To send you the email updates you opted in for - a few times a year (typically 2-3 emails), only when rates or caps change or a new tool ships.
• To understand which calculators are most used so we can prioritize improvements.
• To prevent abuse (rate limiting, spam protection).

• Email address: We keep your email until you unsubscribe. After you unsubscribe, we retain it only on a suppression list so we can comply with our legal obligation under CAN-SPAM never to email you again.
• Server logs: Retained 30 days, then deleted.
• Calculator inputs: Never leave your browser, so there is nothing for us to retain.

The MilitaryCalc iOS app is free and supported by ads served by Google AdMob (Google LLC). Calculator inputs in the app stay on your device, as on the website. We do not have accounts in the app and we do not receive your name, email or contact details from it.

• What the ad SDK processes: To show and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK processes device and usage data such as the advertising identifier (IDFA, only if you allow tracking), an app-specific identifier, IP address, device model and OS version, ad interactions, and crash and performance data. Google describes this in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
• Tracking permission (Apple ATT): The app asks for permission before any cross-app tracking. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", the IDFA is not shared and you see less personalized ads. You can change this any time in iPhone Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
• EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR): Before ads load, the app shows a consent message from Google's consent management platform. You can consent, refuse, or choose purposes and vendors individually. If you refuse, ads may still be shown on a limited, non-personalized basis where the law allows it. You can change your choice at any time with the Privacy choices button on the app's home screen.
• US state privacy laws: Residents of states with privacy laws (such as California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others) can opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising through the same Privacy choices button. We honor these opt-outs by requesting restricted data processing from Google.
• Legal basis: For personalized ads in the EEA, UK and Switzerland we rely on your consent. Contextual, non-personalized ads rely on our legitimate interest in funding a free app.
• Removing ads: Where offered, an optional one-time in-app purchase removes ads. Purchases are handled by Apple; we never see your payment details.

• Consent: We send marketing and rate-change email only because you opted in. You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing, with no effect on email already sent.
• Legitimate interest: We keep short-lived server logs to secure the site and prevent abuse, which is in our legitimate interest in running a safe service.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Erase your data (the right to be forgotten).
• Restrict how we process your data.
• Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
• Port your data, receiving it in a portable format.
• Complain to a supervisory authority (for EU/UK residents, your local data protection authority).

You can unsubscribe from email at any time using the link in every email we send, or exercise any of the rights above by emailing [email protected]. We respond to all such requests within 7 business days.
