About MilitaryCalc
MilitaryCalc is a set of nine free calculators for service members, veterans, and their families. BAH, BAS, GI Bill, VA Disability, VA Loan, TSP, Retirement, Combat Pay, and CONUS COLA.
The site exists because the big lender calculators online hide their answers behind 25-step forms designed to capture you as a sales lead. If you just want to know your monthly BAH, you should not have to enter your bankruptcy history first.
So this is simple: type a ZIP and a paygrade, see the rate.
Why trust the numbers
Every figure on the site comes from a public government source. We do not estimate, smooth, model, or guess.
- BAH + COLA: DoD Defense Travel Management Office (DTMO) ASCII rate files
- BAS: DFAS pay tables
- GI Bill: VA.gov Post-9/11 (Chapter 33) published rates
- VA Disability + VA Loan: VA.gov compensation and funding fee charts
- TSP: TSP.gov contribution limits and BRS match schedule
- Retirement: militarypay.defense.gov retirement plan formulas
- Combat Pay: defense.gov special and incentive pay schedule
Who built it
Solo developer. Civilian. Family with military background. Not affiliated with the DoD, VA, or any branch of service. The site is funded by a small future affiliate component (financial products that already exist regardless), never by selling subscriber data.
Promises
- No mailing list rental, no data sale.
- No dark patterns. Unsubscribe is one click.
- Maximum 2-3 emails per year unless you opt into rate-change alerts.
- Source links on every result so you can verify.
- When a rate is wrong, fix it the same week it is reported.
Roadmap
Next things planned (in rough priority order):
- BAH vs local rent ratio (Zillow / Rentometer median comparison)
- Side-by-side compare for every calculator (not just BAH)
- Annual rate-change alert emails the day DoD publishes new tables
- OCONUS COLA (Alaska, Hawaii, Germany, Japan, Korea)
- Glossary of military pay terms
- Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) calculator
